Late November 2004 we entered the studio to record a "pre-production" for this album. We recorded 7 songs in 5 days (the album will have 8 songs, but the last one wasn`t finished). Doing this, we have had a lot of time to listen to the songs and find out how they really sound. Finding out that the tempo or arrangement isn`t right, is not fun while recording the album for real!

As Bjørnar left us early 2004, we also lost the one writing many of the songs on "Åsmund Frægdegjevar". Luckily, this "enlightened" Espen G, and he has made some fantastic songs during the last 6 months of 2004. Siv Lena and our new guitarist Ketil have also written 2 songs.

We will not make a concept-album, like "Åsmund Frægdegjevar" this time. A professional writer, Birger Sivertsen and his wife Kristin have written the lyrics. He is an expert on Norwegian folklore, and that`s the theme on this album. The lyrics will be much easier to understand this time, as they are written in modern Norwegian (nynorsk) or dialect :-) As the lyrics were finished before we started making the music, the songs are even more focused on the melodies and there will be more singing on this album. The music is more varied, but we think that the you will still hear the essence of Lumsk!

There will be 8 songs on the album:

-Nøkken
-Trolltind
-Dunker
-Allvis
-Åsgårdsreia
-Perpålsa
-Blæster
-Byttingen

Day 1 Monday January the 3rd

Alf and Stein Bratland (studio tech) started the day changing all the drumheads and tuning the drumkit. Thanks to TRE`45 for opening their store for us even though they were closed! After setting up the drumkit the way he wanted, Alf recorded the drums on "Trolltind". Eystein played the "cue-guitar". After this we recorded the drums on "Allvis". On this song we used the pre-production as "cuing", and Alf played along with the guitars, synths, and vocals from this recording. The local newspaper from Eystein`s homeplace called for an interview.
A great start - plan to record 3 songs tomorrow!

Day 2 Tuesday January the 4th
Recorded the drums on "Dunker", Blæster" and "Åsgårdsreia", as planned. As we had prepared the recording well and could use the pre-production as a cue-track, the recording has gone much faster than expected. As a result of this, Alf started recording "Nøkken" that was planned for tomorrow. Espen G played the melodies on a huge midi-keyboard so Alf didn`t loose the track :-) Just one song left! Eystein set up his guitar-rig in the studio, and started recording the clean guitars on "Trolltind" when the rest had left the studio. He has borrowed a Gibson Les Paul (Thanks, Kurt!) and a Fender Stratocaster (Thanks, Stein!) in addition to his own ESP Baritone. This means he has 3 totally different guitars, but still doesn`t know which one to use where...

Enough to keep your fingers on :-)
"This is how many songs I recorded today"
So many choices...

Day 3 Wednesday January the 5th

Siv Lena came down to make sure the drums on "Nøkken" were right, and recorded the violin at the same time. She also recorded "Perpålsa" before the drums were recorded, as this made it easier for the rest of us to get the right "folk touch" on it. She used her acoustic violin first, but decided to dub some parts with her electric violin. Alf recorded "Perpålsa" and is now finished! Actually we had planned to use the whole week on the drums, but it doesn`t seem to be neccessary. Eystein recorded some clean guitars on "Allvis" and "Trolltind".

Day 4 Thursday January the 6th

Eystein continued recording the clean guitars on "Blæster" and "Dunker". Siv Lena came with her third violin and dubbed the melodies on the choruses on "Nøkken" and "Perpålsa". Eystein and Alf met a photographer in the evening, who we will probably use for the photos on this album.

Day 5 Friday January the 7th

Eystein finished recording the clean guitars, and continued recording some of the heavy, distorted parts :-) Ketil started recording his guitars in the evening after work.

Day 6 Saturday January the 8th

Ketil recorded clean guitars. Used Kurt`s Les Paul and Magnus` Jackson.

Espen - worshipping his coffe and smoke!
  Sunday January the 9th
